Library Services
The Lawrence Public Library District will lend all circulating materials to cardholders in good standing. Materials from other libraries in the Illinois Heartland system are available by inter-library loan. Requests may be made at the library, through the library website: lawpubliclibrary.org, or with the SHARE app.
The Lawrence Public Library has the Cloud Library eBook database through the Illinois Heartland Library System. Ebooks and audiobooks are also available through the Libby app and the Hoopla app. Hoopla also has movies, magazines and other items. A current library card that is free of fines is required to access this database. The library also has a dedicated computer and printer for the Lawrence County Legal Self-Help Center. Heritage Quest is a genealogy database accessible from the library or from home with a library card. World Book Online is a research tool with many articles, videos, and educational games. See Library Databases for these resources and others.
All users must register at the circulation desk. Before any person is granted use of an internet station, he/she is required to review and sign an Internet Policy and Use Agreement and provide a photo I.D. (Drivers License or state I.D. card). Internet users under the age of 18 must have a signed authorization by a parent or guardian. Printing charges are $0.10 per black and white page and $0.50 for color. Free WiFi connection is available inside the library; ask staff for assistance.
The Summer Reading Program is held for 5 weeks in June and July. Weekly shows provide lively entertainment for children of all ages up to 12 years of age. The Friends of the Library and the library bring a variety of acts to the stage: jugglers, magicians, musicians, live exotic animals, puppets and storytellers. Children are encouraged to read 15 minutes each day and keep reading logs to earn prizes. See Summer Reading Program for details. Teen programs vary throughout the year.
The staff will assist you in finding a specific document or piece of information. Obituary and other genealogy search requests should be submitted to the library in writing (e-mails are acceptable). There is a minimum charge of $8.00 per written request to cover staff time and copying.
The book club meets on the first Thursday of every month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Call the library for more information. New members are encouraged to attend. Adult programs are offered throughout the year and include author visits and book signings, music and educational topics.
A reading area and reference room are open whenever the library is. A small meeting room is available upon request.
The library provides the following for a fee: photocopying $0.25 per page or $0.50 for color; laminating $0.25 for a business card and $0.50 for letter size; scanning, $0.25 per page, and faxing $1.00 plus $0.25 per page (send only).
